Panniru Thirumurai (“the App”) is a reader for the twelve canonical books of Tamil Saiva devotional poetry. This policy explains how the app and this website handle information. In short, the publisher runs no server, holds no account of you, and receives none of your reading. Your text, your place in it and your preferences stay on your device. The iOS app is supported by third-party advertising, and that advertising collects a device identifier, advertising and interaction data, performance data and your approximate location, and uses them to track you across other companies’ apps and websites. What it collects is set out in full below. None of it reaches the publisher. This website carries no advertising at all.

Summary

iOSWeb
  • The publisher collects and stores no personal data on any server of its own.
  • The text of the twelve Thirumurai is bundled with the app and readable without a connection.
  • Your reading data and preferences are stored on your own device.
  • The iOS app shows third-party advertising, which collects and tracks as set out below. You can turn the tracking part of it off, and the section says how.
  • This website is a static page with no advertising, no accounts, and no tracking of any kind.
  • iCloud sync, where enabled, runs on your own Apple Account and the publisher cannot see it.
  • The tip jar and the ad-free unlock are handled entirely by Apple; the publisher never sees your payment details.
  • Notifications, where enabled, are scheduled locally on your device.

Advertising

iOS
The app is supported by advertising served by Google AdMob. Ad requests go from Google’s SDK inside the app straight to Google; the publisher operates no server in that path and receives none of the data below.

This is the declaration made to the App Store, in Apple’s own categories. Tracking has the meaning Apple gives it: linking this data with data from other companies for targeted advertising or advertising measurement, or sharing it with a data broker.

Data collected by the advertising in the iOS app, by type, purpose, whether it is linked to your identity, and whether it is used to track you.

Usage DataAdvertising DataThird-party advertisingNoYes

LocationCoarse LocationThird-party advertisingNoYes
  • “Not linked to you” means none of it is joined to your name, your email or an account: the publisher has no account to join it to. It is still tied to your device, which is what makes the tracking possible.
  • Coarse location is approximate — a general area, derived from the network you are on rather than from GPS. The app never requests precise location and cannot read it.
  • Crash data is the one row that is not used for advertising. It is how a crash gets fixed.

This website is not covered by any of the above. It serves no advertising and embeds no advertising or analytics SDK of any kind.

Turning the tracking off

iOS
Advertising pays for the app, so it cannot be switched off entirely — but the tracking can, and the ads then simply become less relevant rather than disappearing.
  • The app must ask before it may track you, and it does. If you decline, it cannot read your device’s advertising identifier and cannot track you. To change your answer later: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
  • Google’s own controls for the advertising it shows you live at myadcenter.google.com.
  • Buying the ad-free unlock, or leaving a tip, removes the advertising from the app entirely — see “In-app purchases” below.

Some laws, California’s in particular, treat sharing data for cross-context behavioural advertising as a sale of personal information. On that definition the advertising in this app is a sale, and the controls above are how you opt out of it. The publisher does not sell data in any other sense: it has none to sell.

Information stored on your device

iOSWeb
The app keeps the following locally, to remember your place and your preferences:
  • Reading data — your current reading position, bookmarks, recently viewed sections, and any collections you create.
  • Preferences — chosen script and language, reading font, accent colour, appearance, and text size.
  • Pilgrimage records — which of the temples named in Thevaram you have marked as visited.
  • Supporter status — whether you have left a tip or bought the ad-free unlock, so the app knows not to show ads or ask again.
  • Reminder settings — whether daily reminders are enabled, and the times you chose.
This information stays on your device unless you choose to sync it through iCloud, below. The publisher never receives or stores it.

This website is a static page and stores nothing about you. It sets no cookies and reads no personal data. A service worker may cache the site’s own files — fonts, images, the page itself — in your browser so it loads offline; that is a copy of the site, not anything about you, and is readable only by this site in that browser.

Cloud sync (optional)

iOS
If enabled, your bookmarks, reading position, collections and preferences synchronise across your Apple devices through iCloud Key-Value storage, tied to your own Apple Account, under Apple’s privacy policy. The publisher cannot view, access or retrieve this data. Sync can be disabled at any time in the app’s Settings or through your device’s system settings.

Signing in (optional)

iOS
Signing in is optional, and reading never requires it. If you use Sign in with Apple, the identifier and name Apple provides are stored locally on your device, under Apple’s privacy policy. These details are never transmitted to the publisher or to any third party. You can sign out at any time in Settings.

In-app purchases

iOS
The app offers a tip jar (five optional, repeatable amounts) and a one-time purchase to remove advertising. Both are processed entirely by Apple’s StoreKit: the publisher never sees your card, billing or payment details, only the fact that a purchase completed, which is what lets the app record your supporter or ad-free status on your device (see above).
  • Nothing in the app is gated behind a purchase. Every verse is free whether or not you ever tip.
  • If you opt in to share sales and financial reports, the publisher receives only aggregated figures through App Store Connect — never your identity or payment method.

Apple Music (optional)

iOS
The app can ask permission to interact with Apple Music, under Apple’s privacy policy. No audio is stored or served by the app itself, and the app does not collect, track, log or retain your Apple Music listening history or credentials.

Notifications (optional)

iOS
Where reminders are enabled they are scheduled as local notifications on the device itself, by iOS. No schedule, content or device token is sent to any server. They can be turned off in the app’s Settings or in system notification settings.

Servers and network requests

iOSWeb
  • iOS: the app operates without a publisher backend and makes no network requests to the publisher. It does call Google’s advertising servers to fetch ads, as described above, and Apple’s servers for iCloud sync, Sign in with Apple and Apple Music, each under Apple’s own policies.
  • Web: this site is served by ordinary web hosting, which — like any web host — records standard request logs, including IP addresses, for delivery and security. This is inherent to being a website rather than an installed app.

Information the app does not collect

iOSWeb
Setting the advertising above aside, the app and this website do not collect, use or share:
  • Your name, email address, contacts, photos or files.
  • Precise location. Only the coarse location described above, and only via the advertising SDK.
  • The content of your reading — the verses you open or bookmark, your place in the text, and what you type into search. These stay on your device and are sent to no one, including the publisher.
  • Apple Music listening history, or your credentials with it.

The distinction is worth stating exactly, because the section above complicates it. The advertising SDK records product interaction — that the app was opened, that a screen was shown, that an ad was seen or tapped. It does not receive the text you are reading or the terms you searched for, and neither does the publisher.

Information platform owners may receive

iOS
When you download or purchase from the App Store:
  • Apple may process device metadata, download metrics and diagnostic crash logs, under its own privacy policy.
  • If you opt in to share diagnostics, the publisher receives only aggregated, anonymised crash reports and basic usage statistics through App Store Connect. That data is decoupled from your identity.

Platform privacy declaration

iOS
The App Privacy details declared to Apple for this app reflect the advertising described above — the table under “Advertising” is that declaration, in Apple’s own categories, including the rows under “Data Used to Track You.”

Children’s privacy

iOSWeb
The App’s content is devotional and suitable for all ages, but the app is not directed at children, and the publisher does not knowingly collect personal information from a child. The advertising it carries comes from a third party and is not chosen by the publisher. This website carries no advertising at all.

Retention and deletion

iOSWeb
  • Local data (app): uninstalling removes all local data from your device immediately.
  • Local data (web): clearing this site’s data in your browser removes its offline cache. There is nothing else of yours to remove.
  • Synced cloud data: disable iCloud sync in the app’s Settings, or delete the app’s iCloud data through iOS Settings under your Apple Account.
  • Sign-out: signing out in Settings removes the sign-in from that device.
  • Advertising data: it is held by Google, not the publisher, so it is Google that deletes it — reset or delete the advertising identifier in your device settings, and use myadcenter.google.com for the rest.

Security

iOSWeb
Data on your device relies on the hardware-level encryption and security architecture of iOS, and in the browser on its own origin-isolated storage. iCloud data relies on Apple’s infrastructure. Because the publisher operates no user database and no remote store of reader data, there is none to breach.

Changes to this policy

iOSWeb
This policy may be updated to reflect changes to the app, this website, or platform requirements. Updates are marked by revising the effective date above, and the current version always lives at this same address.
